MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Teen Scene After School Program
Teen Scene is a fun place for kids in the 6th, 7th, & 8th grade to chill after school. This program is designed to nurture “tweens” during their adjustment to the social and academic demands of middle school. Aware of the development needs of this age group, we foster responsibility, positive relationships, the power of choices, social skills and much more!
Teen Scene Activities include:
- Homework time at the Library
- Monthly Field trips
- “Chilin” Time
- Arts and crafts
- Group Games
- Video Game tournaments
- Movie making
- Computer safety classes
- Web page and digital photo design classes and clubs
- SMART Girls
- Snack Shack (purchase a snack punch card for afterschool treats)
- And Much More!
Torch Club
Torch Clubs are chartered small group leadership and service clubs for tweens ages
11-13. Club members elect officers and work together to plan programs and activities that focus on character development in four areas:
- service to Club and community
- education
- health and fitness
- social recreation
Torch Clubs that provide outstanding programs and activities in these categories are eligible for national awards from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Some Torch Club activities include: Rake and Run, animal blanket drives, volunteering at Northwest Harvest, sponsoring families for the holidays, producing middle school dances, and just having fun!
Torch Club Meetings are held weekly on Thursdays during lunch at Islander Middle School starting Thursday, Sept 10th.

The Club has many opportunities for your child to get involved and learn valuable life skills. Come help the staff with tutoring, club clean up, food banks , NW Harvest, Children’s Hospital, park clean up, and much more!
High School Programs (Grades 9, 10, 11 & 12)
Keystone Program
Keystone is the Club's most dynamic teen program which focuses on community service throughout the year. Keystone Clubs are small-group leadership and service clubs for males and females ages 14-18. Members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities in six areas:
- Service to Club and community
- Leadership
- Development
- Education and career exploration
- Unity, free enterprise
- Social recreation
Keystone Meetings are held weekly on Mondays after school at the Boys & Girls Club.

High School Volunteer Opportunities
The Club has many opportunities for your child to get involved and learn valuable life skills. Come help with tutoring, become a counselor in training, help with club clean up, front desk duties, NW Harvest, park clean up, and much more!
NEW! TEEN WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
Special thanks to the Mercer Island Community Fund and King County Grant for making these two new programs possible! These programs are available for members entering 6th - 12th grades in Fall 2009.
Video Game Craze!
If you love to play video games, this is the place to be. We will host a series of activities around video game play, designing of gaming with guest speakers from top Gaming Studios and end of the year field trip! Also enjoy open gym, snacks and more!

Open Mic Night
Here’s your time to shine! Come jam, speak poetry, make jokes, and share your talents each month! Professional performers will teach youth how to deal with stage fright, teach tricks for performing, and much more! Also enjoy movies, foosball, and pool!

NOTES:
Student ID: is required for attendance.
Member Discounts: are offered to Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club members. Bring your membership card to receive a $3 discount upon entry.
Dress code: Modest attire is required. Girls must have shorts or skirts that are no shorter than 6” above knees. No shirts with spaghetti straps or exposed mid drifts allowed.
Refused entrance: MIBGC staff has the right to refuse admission to a child that does not meet the above requirements and/or if the child threatens the safety of others present.
Parent volunteers/chaperones: are welcome! We can always use help with traffic control, check-in, concessions, and chaperoning at our youth dances. If you would like to help out contact Joan Caldon, Director of Programs and Child Care Operations.
